Movie Monday: Romeo + Juliet

This classic tale of star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, comes alive in this 1996 Baz Luhrmann film where modern meets vintage. The original dialogue was retained – to my delight – I love it when they make Shakespeare’s plays into films and use the original lines.

What I love about the style in this film is that, it managed to stay hip and modern but did not veer away too much from vintage touches. It is a beautiful clash of old and new, and I thought, what an excellent idea to steal for a wedding theme. This film inspired me to come up with a look that is ethereal and edgy at the same time. Lush flowers are to be used but will be in deeper shades of purple, mauve and dusty rose.

I also love the idea of colored bottles labelled as love potions. You could fill them up with your favorite fragrance, or better yet, a dose of your favorite wine and give them out as wedding favors.
One of my favorite parts in the film was the masquerade ball and Juliet’s winged angel costume. Oh, I adore those wings! Why not wear a pair and jazz up your bridal ensemble a bit?
This Romeo + Juliet wedding theme is all about wild abandon and a euphoria of love and carefree beauty.
