Movie Monday: Oz the Great and Powerful

I never really thought I’d be using the colors Red, Green and Yellow in one mood board. Well, that was before the “The Wizard of Oz ” wedding theme idea came up. Think of the Yellow Brick Road, the Ruby Slippers, and the Emerald City. You get the picture?

The movie Oz the Great and Powerful was set 20 years before the events of the original novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz or The Wizard of Oz (whichever you prefer to call it), and tells the story of Oscar the magician as he arrives in the Land of Oz where he was enlisted to restore its order while, at the same time, struggling to resolve conflicts with the witches Theodora, Evanora and Glinda.

I love how vibrant the colors are in this film, the explosion of colors are truly remarkable. And did I mention that I absolutely love the wardrobe of the 3 witches? Oh yes, I do! But I love Glinda’s sparkly gown the most! 🙂 Hint: It will look pretty-perfect and fab as a wedding gown too!

What’s so great about the Wizard of Oz wedding theme is that it’s both quirky and whimsical. You don’t need to follow any fancy rules. It is also bursting with vivid colors and it is magical. As for the color palette, you can actually skip the Yellow and use Gold Glitter instead. The Gold would be a perfect pair for the Emerald Green. Add some Red sparingly and use it as a final touch or only as highlights. Don’t fret, however little Red you use, it will still stand out. Check out the mood board below and see how the right colors will do wonders for this theme.

P.S. The hand-painted “yellow brick road” aisle runner is brilliant, don’t you think? 🙂
